For two years Osric has lived a simple life in the small village of Abbotsend on England’s south coast, though he is feared and shunned for his mysterious past and blood-red eye.

Because of this the Norsemen’s leader Jarl Sigurd spares Osric’s life, taking him and his carpenter foster father Ealhstan aboard their dragon-prowed ships as prisoners.

At first Osric hates this band of brothers and all they stand for, yet he cannot deny their courage and honor. Moreover, he begins to understand what drives these fierce men to risk their lives so far from their homeland.
